2. Tyres

Like wheels, there are many options for tyres as well. It’s important to know what kind of terrain you will be traversing through when it comes to choosing the right tyres for your off-road setup.

Generally speaking, there are three types of off-road  available:

  • All-terrain
  • Mud
  • Hybrid

Starting with All-terrain, these tyres are designed for everyday use. They feature smaller tread blocks and gaps to keep them quiet on the road while still being able to eject water.

They usually have siping as well which are little grooves cut into the tyre to pick up small amounts of snow to maintain traction.

If you tend to daily drive your off-road vehicle and you don’t do anything hardcore like mud bogging, all-terrain tyres might be perfect for you!

Next are mud tyres.

Mud tyres feature very large treat blocks with a very aggressive tread pattern.

These tyres are designed to traverse through mud and another extremely harsh terrain. They usually have a stronger sidewall than the other tyres as well in order to protect your wheel.

Keep in mind that mud tyres will be the loudest tyre on road that you can buy due to their aggressive design.

If you plan to use your truck in extremely harsh off-road conditions, then you need a mud tyre!

Finally, we have hybrid tyres.

These are kind of the best of both worlds. They feature a semi-aggressive tread pattern which will allow your vehicle to perform pretty well off-road while still being manageable when used on the road.

Hybrid tyres are usually the most common setup for weekend off-roaders and adventurers.

We like to think of the hybrid tyre as a jack of all trades but a master of none. It does everything well but a mud tyre will be better off-road and an all-terrain tyre will be better on the road.

If you like to go camping on the weekends (like many Aussies do), or just do some mild trailblazing, then the hybrid tyre will be able to meet your needs!

3. Suspension

  • Body Lifts

Body lift kits do exactly what their name says. They lift the body of the vehicle to make it look higher.

This is often the most cost-effective way to achieve that lifted look that so many are after.

It is important to note that a body lift won’t lift any other vehicle components. While your truck or 4WD will sit higher with a body lift, it won’t gain any ground clearance.

Body lifts are designed to simply give your vehicle a more aggressive look while maintaining the most OEM functionality.

  • Suspension Lifts

Suspension lift kits lift all of the components of the vehicle allowing for more ground clearance and a more aggressive stance.

Suspension lifts can be as simple as putting a block in the factory struts, or as advanced as replacing the factory struts with upgraded coilovers.

If you want more ground clearance for your off-roading adventures, you can save yourself some money by going with a standard suspension lift.

However, if you want your truck or 4WD to be extremely competitive off-road while maintaining a decent ride, coilovers are by far the best option.

The Wrap Up
